‘Take stern action against those preventing poll officers from doing their duties’

Krishna Kunal, General Observer of the Election Commission for the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru parliamentary constituency, said on Thursday that stern action should be taken against those who prevented officers and staff from performing their duty with regard to the parliamentary elections.

He was speaking at a meeting of officers at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, here.

Mr. Kunal said that a large number of government officers and staff were involved in ensuring a free and fair election.

Teams of officers and staff went to do checking at different places for this purpose. But there were reports of the officers and staff being prevented from carrying out their duties, he said.

He gave directions for stern action to be taken against those preventing the officers from doing their duty.

He also directed the Deputy Commissioner to recommend the cancellation of permits of permit holders of arms who had still not deposited their arms at the nearest police stations.

There can be no election campaigning after 10 p.m. Election campaign meetings should not be held on the premises of schools and hospitals. GPS equipment should be installed on all vehicles on polling duty, he said.

Deputy Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati explained the preparations being made for the parliamentary elections.

Zilla Panchayat CEO Sindhu B. Rupesh and Additional Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari were present.

Mr. Kunal released attractive umbrellas created by the SVEEP Committee to create awareness among voters about voting in the elections.
