Deputy Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati said on Monday that tableaux to participate in the Independence Day function here on August 15 should focus on creating public awareness on various issues. She was chairing a preparatory meeting for the Independence Day function at the District Offices Complex here.

Ms. Korlapati said that tableaux could focus on issues such as rainwater harvesting, terrace gardening by Agriculture Department, road safety by the Regional Transport Office, awareness on malaria and dengue by Health Department, tourism by the Tourism Department and protection of wildlife by the Department of Forests. These tableaux should not just be shown during the Independence Day function but also should be taken to various municipal wards in the city, she said.

Art teachers and two students of schools who had created the best paintings on road safety on school walls and compound walls in the district, along with the headmasters of these schools, would be felicitated during the function. A Yaskhagana show on road safety too would be held, Ms. Korlapati said.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari, president of the district unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Neelavar Surendra Adiga and other district-level officers were present.
