Shankar Mahadevan had seen rows of audience flashing mobile phone lights as he sung his last song at Alvas Virasat last year. The audience repeated it when he sung “Koi Khahein Kheheta Rahe...” along with his two sons, Siddarth and Shivam, and fellow singers Raman and Rasika Chandrashekar in Moodbidri on Sunday.

Shankar Mahadevan and his group enthralled the audience with a mix of golden melodies and foot-tapping new-age songs on the concluding day of the three-day Alvas Virasat.

Students of Alvas College started flashing lights from their mobile phones as Shankar Mahadevan was singing Har Ghadi Badal Rahi Hai Roop Zindagi from the film, Kal Ho Na Ho. “Reserve this for the songs that I will sing shortly,” Mahadevan responded.

The audience flashed their lights again as Mahadevan sang Main Kabi Batalata Nahin... from Tare Zameen Par, and kept the tempo on as he sang Neene Rama Neena Shama from the Kannada film Mukunda Murari. The audience clapped as he sang Koi Kahe Keheta Rahe... followed by Mere Chain Wain Sab Ujada, Havan Karenge and the popular Koi Jo Mila To Mujhe from his album Breathless.

The two-hour-long concert began with a soothing number by Rasika Chandrashekar, Tera Sajana. This was followed by Shivam Mahadevan’s presentation of Man Mast Lagan from 2 States followed by Tere Naina from My Name is Khan. The group also presented a golden melody Babu Samjo Ishare from Chalti Ka Naam Gadi. Among the fast numbers the group sang included a Marathi number Zing Zing Zingat... from the film Sairat.

Mahadevan and his group presented a range of melody songs that included Gunjisi Hai Sari Fizayein..., Jaane Kyun Log Pyar Karte Hain, Tanhayee and Kholo Kholo Darwajee Parde Karo Kinare. The group ended the concert by acknowledging the support from the audience with the song Mujhko Baahoo Mein Tum Ghero.

Earlier, Chairman of Alvas Education Foundation Mohan Alva presented the Alvas Varna Virasat Award to artist Suryaprakash from Hyderabad.
