Twelve persons were killed in different accidents in various parts of the State on Sunday.
Three persons, including a two-and-half-a-year old boy, residents of Bengaluru, died on the spot and three suffered injuries when their car hit a road-divider and overturned near Mattanavile village in Channarayapatna taluk.
The police gave the names of the dead as Mamatha (28), her son Dhanush, and her relative Sharath (25). The police said that six members of the family were travelling to Channarayapatna from Mallasandra in Bengaluru to attend an engagement.
The driver lost control of the vehicle when one of the tyres burst. The car hit the road-divider and then overturned.
MUV overturns
Two persons were killed and seven injured when a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) by which they were travelling overturned near Tirumalapura on National Highway 75 at Nagamangala in Mandya district. The Bellur police identified the dead as Rame Gowda (65) and his wife Sumitra (55). Seven others sustained injuries.
They were shifted to a local hospital at Nagamangala. Mr. Rame Gowda’s family members, residents of Chamarajpet in Bengaluru, had gone to a temple near Yediyur and the accident occurred while they were returning home, the police said.
Victims from Gadag
Three members of a family, including two women, were killed on the spot and three injured when their car rammed a heavy vehicle near Kanagala on the Pune–Bengaluru NH4 in Sankeshwar police station limits.
The police said Mallesh A. Gagde (44), his wife, Mangala (34), and Kalpana Arvind Gagde were killed on the spot. The driver of their car S. Rehmansaab Hosamani, Jayashree Chandan Gagde and Chandan A. Gagde were injured and had been shifted to a hospital in Kolhapur city of Maharashtra. All the victims were from Gadag.
Bus falls into tank
In Davangere, two persons died on the spot and 27 injured when the government bus by which they were travelling fell into a tank near Byladhalli village in Harihar taluk in Davangere district. The bus, carrying 28 passengers, was going to Hubballi from Shivamogga via Harihar.
The injured were treated at the government hospital and the seriously injured admitted to Davangere government hospital.
According to eye-witnesses, rash and negligent driving caused the accident.
Puttur accident
Two persons from Uttarahalli in Bengaluru died after the car by which they were travelling collided head-on with another car in Puttur taluk.
The police gave the names of the dead as Suryanarayana (64) and Gopinath (45). They were on their way to Puttur to attend a funeral when the accident occurred near Koudichar on the Mani–Mysuru State highway.
