Dakshina Kannada in-charge Minister U.T. Khader on Friday said that the safety of people and containing floods are the top priorities of the government.
Speaking to presspersons at Kukke Subrahmanya during his tour of rain-affected areas in the district, Mr. Khader said the government has nominated nodal officers for all the seven taluks even as people in the flood-affected areas are being shifted to safer locations.
There is no dearth for funds as ₹30 lakh each are at the disposal of tahsildars even as the government has provided a special package of ₹50 crore for immediate needs, Mr. Khader said.
Compensation to the affected will be disbursed immediately, he added.
The Minister noted that the district has been receiving heavy inflow of water through various waterbodies following heavy rains in the Western Ghats.
Damaged infrastructure, including roads and bridges, will be rebuilt soon after the monsoon, he said.
Mr. Khader began his visit from Bantwal taluk along with Deputy Commissioner S. Sasikanth Senthil and inspected flood havoc around B.C. Road including Goodinabali, Aaladka and surrounding places.
Later, he visited the Sahasralingeshwara Temple at Uppinangady.
He then visited Shiradi Ghat and travelled till Maranahalli, giving necessary directions to teams engaged in removing soil due to landslides.
The Minister then visited Kukke Subrahmanya which was marooned on Thursday and interacted with affected persons. He complimented the temple administration for arranging foods for the displaced persons. Mr. Khader also visited the Subrahmanya Temple and Mutt.
