Prioritise development works on Malpe beach: Madhwaraj

Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports, directed officers to take immediate steps to implement works for the development of Malpe beach.

He was chairing a meeting of the Malpe Beach Development Committee at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here.

Mr. Madhwaraj directed the officers of Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Ltd (KRIDL) to construct toilets near the parking space of Malpe beach. He said the construction should be completed by the end of February.

Responding to the suggestion on the construction of a bus stand near Balram Circle made by Prashanth Amin, Municipal Councillor, Mr. Madhwaraj directed D. Manjunathaiah, Commissioner, Udupi City Municipal Council, to implement the job immediately.

He also directed officers to construct a green room near the stage on Malpe beach. A biodigester unit should be installed near the toilet there, he said.

Mr. Madhwaraj said the food stalls at St. Mary’s Island should display prices of the food items. Steps should be taken to see that the tourists do not suffer for want of food items there, he said.

Separate numbers should be given to the shops on the Malpe beach. Steps should be taken to construct a separate office for the Malpe Beach Development at Malpe, he said.

There should no shortage of funds for the works on the Malpe beach. Hence, the estimates’ list for all the works on the beach should be prepared as soon as possible, Mr. Madhwaraj said.

Priyanka Mary Francis, Deputy Commissioner; Meenakshi Bannanje, president, Udupi City Municipal Council; and Sandhya Tilakraj, council vice-president, were present.
