In addition to spreading awareness on stamp and coin collection, the Postal Department earned a revenue of about ₹ 10 lakh during the four-day 12th State-level Philately Exhibition, which concluded here on Tuesday, according to Chief Postmaster General, Karnataka Circle, Charles Lobo.

Speaking at the valedictory ceremony of the exhibition, Mr. Lobo said that revenue came through sales of special postal covers, miniature sheets, picture post cards, collector’s guide and my stamp.

He said that the department will give a copy each of the 60-page Kannada alphabet book through stamps, “Kannada Akshara Male”, the first such book by India Post on language education in the country, to all schools in the State. It was released at the exhibition on Sunday. If schools placed demands, more such books will be supplied.

Mr. Lobo said that more schools should come forward to open philately clubs.

He said that through its picture post cards and stamps, the department is promoting tourism in a great way.

Vice-Chancellor, Mangalore University, P.S. Yadapadithaya, spoke.

Prizes were distributed to winners in different categories of competitions organised on the occasion.
