Over ₹5.8 lakh in foreign notes seized

The Central Industrial Security Force personnel at Mangaluru International Airport, on Sunday evening, seized over ₹5.8 lakh in foreign currency, from a passenger bound for Dubai.

According to a CISF official, the Air Security Group personnel frisked Harry Stephen D’Souza at 7 p.m. and found him possessing U.S. dollars, equivalent to ₹2.94 lakh, and dirhams, equivalent to ₹2.93 lakh. D’Souza had booked a ticket to Dubai by an Air India flight.

As per the standard operating procedure, the CISF personnel handed over D’Souza to the Customs officials for further investigation.

The Customs officials have initiated an inquiry to find the source of the currency, the official added.
