The Hindu Group of Publications’ Young World, which provides educative, informative and interesting material for students in primary and high schools, was re-launched here on Friday, as part of a country-wide programme. It will now be published every Friday instead of Tuesday.

In Mangalore, the new Young World, with a contemporary design and several new and interactive features, was launched at the Infant Jesus Joyland School, Bolar, by school correspondent Frances Pinto.

The new Young World, priced at Rs. 5, will have 16 pages of quality printing on glazed newsprint. It will have the regular features such as short stories and quizzes. Designed to make learning interesting, it will have sections such as movies, music, sports, personalities, science and much more.

Every page will have a name which will help children identify the topics it carries, teasers that make children think, and above all, three pages to unleash their creativity — be it on canvas or through prose.

Pages such as Globe Trot, for example, will introduce children to what is happening around us in the week gone by, while ‘Potpourri’ will have crosswords, interactive games, and feature connect-the-dots besides brain teasers. Launched in 1990, two generations of young readers have celebrated childhood with Young World.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Pinto said that she had been an avid reader of Young World since its inception. Clippings of the educative articles had always adorned the school’s information board, Ms. Pinto added. She urged the students to read Young World to improve their linguistic skills and enhance their knowledge.

Arjun Pinto, school administrator, and Agnes Pinto, head mistress, were present.
