Movement of vehicles to Subrahmanya affected

In Udupi, four houses and five fields were damaged due to rain accompanied by winds.

Heavy rain continued in the city and several parts of the district on Friday.

A rise in the level of water at the Hosmata Bridge blocked the movement of vehicles between Kadaba and Uppinangady till 2 p.m. Similarly a rise in the water level at the Kumaradhara Bridge affected the movement of vehicles between Gundiya and Kukke Subramanya.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, 5.6 mm rainfall was recorded in the last 24 hours ending at 8 a.m. of Friday. In the same period, 5.6 mm rainfall was recorded in Belthangady, 3.8 mm in Mangaluru, 2 mm in Puttur and 1 mm in Bantwal. The district so far has recorded an average of 584.6 mm rainfall so far in June.

Houses damaged

In Udupi, four houses and five fields were damaged due to rain accompanied by winds.

According to the information provided by the Karkala Taluk Office, five fields were inundated with water from a mini power project dam across Swarna River at Mundli in Tellar village. Though the dam had 14 gates, only five gates had been opened.

This resulted in artificial flooding of five fields in the vicinity of the dam. The damage due to the flooding of the fields was yet to be assessed. It could be assessed only after the water level went down, said an official.

According to the information provided by Kundapur Taluk Office, the house of Jalaja Devadiga was damaged due to winds and rain at Alnad village and the loss was estimated at Rs. 25,000. A house belonging to Girija K. was damaged in Molahalli village and the loss was estimated at Rs. 30,000.

The house of Muthu Ramesh suffered damages when the roof caved in Katbeltur village and the loss had been estimated at Rs. 10,000.

According to the information provided by the District Control Room at the Deputy Commissioner's Office, the house of K. Girija was damaged at Harady village and the loss was estimated at Rs. 80,000. Udupi received a rainfall of 75.3 mm in the last 24 hours ending at 9 a.m. on Friday. Kundapur and Karkala received a rainfall of 76.8 mm and 116.7 mm respectively.
