Describing Tipu Sultan as one of the greatest patriots of India, Horticulture and district in-charge Minister M.C. Managuli has asserted that disrespecting Tipu is equal to dishonoring the nation.

Speaking at the Tipu Jayanti programme on Saturday, he said that those who are opposing the event are doing only to create communal divide for political gain.

“I don’t understand what the BJP is losing by supporting Tipu Jayanti when it has no problem celebrating Jayantis of other leaders of different communities,” he said.

Informing that Tipu Sultan introduced silk to India, he said that it was Tipu who brought land reforms in the then Mysore region.

Stating that Tipu Sultan strove for the unity of different communities by respecting them, Mr. Managuli said that the best tribute to Tipu Sultan is to maintain communal harmony in the society.

Delivering a special lecture about Tipu Sultan, writer and journalist, Ramzan Darga rebutted allegations that Tipu was anti-Hindu.

Claiming that Tipu offered financial aid to over 150 temples and reconstructed some of the damaged temples, he said that calling Tipu ant-Hindu was false.

Accusing the British of writing a wrong history of Tipu to malign him as he was the biggest enemy of the British, Mr. Darga said that some of the historians affiliated to Sangh Parivar are the ones who are endorsing British historians while true historians never call him anti-Hindu. On the occasion, students of the Muslim community who scored good marks in SSLC and PU were felicitated.
