‘Drugs harmful to individual, society'

Two functions were held here on Saturday to mark International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. This year's theme is “Think health — not drugs”.

Speaking at a function organised by the by the district unit of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) and NCC 21 Karnataka Battalion, Commanding Officer of NCC 21 Sushil Gurang said that consumption of drugs was harmful to both individuals and society.

It was essential that the youth keep away from bad company.

Awareness should be created among the youth about the ill-effects of drug abuse, Mr. Gurang said.

President of disaster management subcommittee Prabath Kalkura and treasurer of the IRCS T. Chandrashekhar, Secretary K.R. Devadiga werepresent.

Another functon

Another function organised by the District Government Hospital, Dr. A.V. Baliga Memorial Hospital, the Excise Department and the NCC, was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner of Excise Department K. Somaiah.

Director of A.V. Baliga Hospital P.V. Bhandary, psychiatrist Virupaksha Devaramane and Medical Officer at District Government Hospital Vasudeva spoke.
