Several politicians have condoled the death of Minister for Higher Education V.S. Acharya.

The former Education Minister B.A. Mohiuddin said: “He was known for his honesty and had the ability to understand diverse issues, which is a rare quality in a politician. He had humility in accepting constructive suggestions. He was well-read and his speech carried weight. I vividly remember the way he convinced me for division of the undivided Dakshina Kannada.”

Senior Congress leader B. Janardhana Poojary said: “Dr. Acharya was a simple person and never hurt the feelings of opponents. He was an intellectual and good human being.

His demise is a loss for the State, especially to the costal Karnataka region.”

Janata Dal (Secular) leader Amarnath Shetty said: “He was open to constructive ideas, even if it comes from opposition parties. When Mangalore Commissionerate was announced, I went to him to include Moodbidri into the jurisdiction. He immediately acted on it and issued notification accordingly. A rare quality in him was answering the phone call. Unlike other politicians, Mr. Acharya answered all the calls himself even if it was late night.”

Association of Mangalore University College Teachers, St. Aloysius College, Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Father Muller Hospital have condoled his death.
