Fresh landslips on the ghat section between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya Road disrupted Bengaluru-Mangaluru passenger train services on Tuesday with the South Western Railway cancelling some trains and diverting some other.

A landslip of approximate 500 cubic metres fell on the track at km 86/0-1 at 8.35 a.m. near Siribagilu following incessant rain in the ghat section since Sunday evening.

Even as the restoration works were in progress, a second landslip of about 200 cubic metres occurred at noon at km 86/1-3 on the same stretch. A total of 213 mm of rainfall has been recorded since Sunday in the ghat section, said a communique from South Western Railway.

Though it was expected that the tracks would be cleared by Tuesday evening and night trains would be operated on the stretch, the work consumed more time. With restoration work still going on, the South Western Railway decided to alter the services.
