The 38th Shramadan of Ramakrishna Mission’s Swachata Abhiyan was conducted below Kuntikana flyover and surrounding areas on Sunday.

Volunteers cleaned the sides of the road and the parking lots in the area. They removed the posters stuck on the walls of the pillars of the flyover and cleaned them. Heaps of stinking garbage lying beside the bus shelter was lifted. The Kuntikana autorickshaw stand, road leading towards Lohith Nagar, and Derebail were also cleaned. The adjoining drains were cleaned and weeds removed. Illegal banners and flex hoardings were also removed.

The mission organised a special meeting in association with the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat regarding Swachh Gram Abhiyan in the Ramakrishna Mutt on the occasion.

Presidents, vice-presidents and Panchayat Development Officers of gram panchayats in Mangaluru and Bantwal taluks attended the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, M.R. Ravi, CEO of the ZP, said the Swachh Gram Abhiyan was a model project. “It is the duty of each and every individual to beautify and clean his or her surroundings and leave this a rich legacy for future generations. This is social responsibility. This leads to community welfare,” he said.
