August 31, 2013 02:04 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 12:26 pm IST - Mangalore:

A total of 10 Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, who allegedly went on a rampage destroying vehicles and injuring persons here on August 11 night, were arrested by the Surathkal police on Friday morning.

Out of 13 men identified by villagers of Kuthethur, close to MRPL where the guards were posted, three men were found to have been wrongly identified. “They pointed to men who were not there in town. So, we have let them go, while the rest have been formally arrested,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Ravi Kumar.

The arrested are: Rajesh Chandbogh from Himachal Pradesh, Manoj Kumar from Kerala, S.D. Achayya from Kodagu, A. Pathar from Assam, Soman Gowda from Raichur, N.V. Ramaiah from Andhra Pradesh, A. Raghupathi from Tamil Nadu, Digam Deka Barua from Assam, S. Suresh Babu and A. Ramakrishna, both from Kerala. While Mr. Chandbogh holds the rank of an inspector, the rest are assistant sub-inspectors and constables, the police said.

On August 11 night, CISF personnel assaulted people moving on the Kuthethur Road and damaged at least five vehicles. Three civilians were injured in the attack. Though the attack followed incidents of stone-throwing on CISF quarters in the days preceding, police said the victims of the assault were not connected to the stone-throwing.
