Agitated over a communally sensitive remark, a group of college students assaulted an insurance company executive at the Forum Fiza Mall in Pandeshwar here on Wednesday.
Manjunath, the executive, had had a heated exchange of words with the group of students while having tea at a stall in the mall. A few minutes later, the group confronted Manjunath and then assaulted him. In a video clip that was recorded by a member of the assaulting group, which is now being circulated on the social media, the group is seen assaulting Manjunath after the latter is heard saying “Hindu Rastra”, followed by reference to Muslims. In an audio message accompanying the video, the assailants defended their action stating that they were angered over the communally insensitive remark by Manjunath.
On a complaint by Manjunath, the Mangaluru South Police have registered a case against the assailants. The police have arrested Mohiyuddin Safwan and Abdul Rahim. They have also booked a case against a minor boy who will be dealt with under the Juvenile Justice Act. A search is on for others involved in the incident, the police said.
