Four mini idols of antique value and other jewellery and ornaments were taken away from a Jain Basadi in Ajekar Police limits near Karkala in Udupi district on Sunday morning.

According to the Ajekar Police, a gang is said to have entered the Anantaswamy Basadi at Shirlalu village by breaking open the door and the grills on the eastern side in the early hours of Sunday. The gang took away four Panchaloha idols, 30 grams of gold ornaments meant for the idols and some silver articles kept in the sanctum sanctorum of the Basadi.

Udupi Superintendent of Police K. Annamalai said that the stolen idols look to be nearly 150 years old. There were no CCTV cameras.
