Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said on Sunday that he would spend a day in Kodagu on October 17 to listen to the demands of people affected by landslips and floods in August.
At a function organised by the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Union, he said coffee growers and others lost houses and plantations in the deluge. “Many have come to the streets,” he said, adding that he would like to know what people need now in the post-flood scenario. A decision on announcing relief measures for them will be taken later, he said.
Mr. Kumaraswamy also said his government was stable and would continue to rule the State despite the “efforts of the BJP” to destabilise it. He appealed to the media to focus on development works and people’s issues instead of such designs.
The Chief Minister said waiving farm loans in cooperative societies to an extent of ₹40,000 crore would not come in the way of financial stability of the government, which has enough money for development works. “But the bureaucracy is not working at the expected speed thinking that the government might collapse. It will have to adjust to the speed of development works planned by the government,” he said.
