Fasting from today

Dakshina Kannada Zilla Qazi Tawaka Ahamed Musliyar has called upon Muslims to perform the month-long fasting in the month of Ramzan from Thursday as moon has been sighted on Wednesday.

Fishermen warned

The Indian Meteorological Department has warned fishermen of strong winds from westerly to north-westerly direction along and off the Karnataka coast in the next 24 hours. These winds might reach upto 55 kmph. Fishermen have been warned against going into the sea. Meanwhile, Mangaluru recorded 21.8 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours ending 8 a.m. on Wednesday. In the same period, Belthangady recorded 16.8 mm, followed by 15.5 mm in Bantwal, 8 mm in Puttur and 6.4 mm in Sullia.

Writer felicitated

The Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Limited (CAMPCO) president Konkondy Padmanabha on Tuesday felicitated writer Kayyara Kinhanna Rai at his residence in Badiyaka near Kasaragod on latter’s 100th birthday. CAMPCO Managing Director Suresh Bhandary, its vice-president Satishchandra Bhandary accompanied Mr. Padmanabha, a release said.

Club awarded

The Mangalore Toastmasters Club received Golden Gravel Club and Spirit of 92 awards at the Toastmasters International District 92 Conference held recently in Kochi. Club president Sachitha Nandagopal received the awards. Anita Cordiero and Nivedita Mirajkar from the club received the Distinguished Division Governor and the 20-20 Linkers Innovator Award respectively.
