Executive officers asked to take possession of lands

September 14, 2011 09:32 am | Updated 09:32 am IST - MANGALORE:

Chief Executive Officer of the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchyat K.N. Vijay Prakash has asked executive officers of the taluk panchayats to take possession of lands allotted under the Ambedkar and Ashraya Housing Schemes within a week.

Reviewing various development programmes in the district on Monday, Mr. Prakash found that there was no progress in taking over the lands in five taluks. Executive Officer of Bantwal Taluk Panchayat said they were in the process of doing the survey of the allotted land while his counterpart from Belthangady Taluk Panchayat said land had been allotted under the two schemes.

To this, Mr. Prakash said: “These were the same replies given in the last month's review meeting. There was no progress made in taking possession of the allotted lands.”

He expressed his displeasure over the delay in taking possession of 12.8 acres of land in Puttur taluk for the Ashraya and Ambedkar Housing Schemes.

Mr. Prakash then instructed all the EOs to show progress within a week in taking over the allotted lands. “The government is committed towards providing houses. Such delay in the process will not be accepted,” he said.

Mr. Prakash said a meeting of the EOs and revenue officials chaired by the Deputy Commissioner would be convened shortly to resolve issues related to some lands. Mr. Prakash was not happy with the procedural delays in acquiring land for government schools. Chairman of the zilla panchayat Standing Committee on Social Welfare Narayana Gowda accused officials of not showing interest in this regard. Mr. Prakash said the zilla panchayat would shortly come out with guidelines to EOs to prevent erratic construction of houses and other buildings next to roads.
