To strengthen the ongoing source clearance drive against dengue, Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil S. has called a meeting of heads of all schools and colleges here on Monday to discuss ways and means to make mosquito larvae clearing a regular exercise.

Talking to reporters after launching the Dengue Drive Day programme at his residence, Mr. Senthil said that educational institutions should regularly carry out the exercise at their institutions. “Mosquito larvae clearance has to be a regular exercise. Institutions should keep on clearing fresh water stocks with mosquito larvae on a regular basis,” he said.

Mr. Senthil said that the heads of educational institutions will be made aware of this norm during the meeting on Monday. “If institutions ignore it and mosquito breeding is found hitherto, then we will start imposing penalty,” he said. The meeting of principals and headmasters of all colleges and schools will be held at the Town Hall at 10 a.m.

Earlier, marking the start of the weekly “Dengue Drive Day”, Mr. Senthil, accompanied by District Health and Family Welfare Officer M. Ramakrishna Rao, Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), Mangaluru City Corporation, Gayathri Nayak and activist Suresh Shetty inspected his residence to clear mosquito breeding sites.

Mr. Senthil, in the evening, joined a signature campaign for mosquito source clearance drive held at the City Centre Mall. Students of Srinivasa College performed a flash mob programme on dengue awareness at the same venue. The flash mob programme was also held at Forum Fiza Mall and Bharat Mall.

DYFI action

A team of volunteers from Democratic Youth Federation of India led by the former councillor Dayanand Shetty on Sunday visited houses in Panjimogeru ward and cleared fresh water stocks where mosquito larvae were found. The team used a vehicle fitted with a loudspeaker to campaign about the ongoing vector cleaning drive and make people aware about the use of mosquito repellants and other modes to prevent mosquito bite.
