Dry days for GP polls

The Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Dakshina Kannada, has declared dry days, banning sale of all kinds of alcohol from the midnight of May 28 to the midnight of May 29 in view of the elections to Gram Panchayats in the district. During the period, all liquor shops should remain closed, a release said.

RTO camps cancelled

The monthly camps of Mangaluru Regional Transport Office proposed at B.C. Road on May 25 and at Moodabidri on May 27 have been cancelled, said Afzal Ahmed Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Transport, Mangaluru, in a release. Since inspectors of motor vehicles and other staff would be busy securing vehicles for gram panchayat poll duty and other related works, the camps have been cancelled, he said.

Admission to degree courses

Admission to first year B.A., B.Com and B. Sc (Physics, Mathematics and Electronics) has commenced at the Government First Grade College, Mudipu, for the academic year 2014-15. Interested students may obtain necessary application forms from the college office, Kurnad, Bantwal Taluk, said Principal M.S. Giridhar Rao in a release.

Vasantotsava today at Pilikula

Eminent horticulture scientist and entrepreneur Manamohan Attavar, Chairman, Indo-American Hybrid Seeds, would inaugurate the Vasantotsava (spring festival), at Dr. K. Shivaram Karanth Pilikula Nisargadhama at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim in a release here said the festival would feature various kinds of seasonal fruits from the coastal and Malnad region and their dishes. He urged the public to attend the event and learn more about the local culture. The festival is open till 5 p.m.
