A dolphin, which was struggling to breath, floated ashore at Hosabettu beach near here on Wednesday morning.

Locals made several attempts to send it back to the sea; but every time it came back to the shore, said Sharath Salian, an eyewitness.

The belly of the dolphin had turned red and local fishermen suspected that it might be due to the dolphin hitting some boat or due to change in the nature of water due to the monsoon.

Mr. Salian said that by noon, locals were able to push the dolphin into the sea and did not see it return again.
