District unit of Congress supports government

October 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - MANGALURU:

Interim president of Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee Kodijal Ibrahim on Thursday said the party supports the government on the issue of Yettinahole water diversion project.

“There is no difference of opinion between the Dakshina Kannada district unit of the party and the government on the issue,” Mr. Ibrahim told presspersons here, responding to a question on the party’s stand on the issue. He said the project only proposes to provide drinking water to parched districts of the State.

It is not diversion of the Netravathi, Mr. Ibrahim claimed and said only the excess rainwater flowing into the Arabian Sea would be diverted to Kolar and surrounding districts.

However, if the project is found to be affecting the interests of people in Dakshina Kannada the party would oppose the same, he added.
