The Congress is ready for simultaneous polls to the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies if the BJP dissolves Assemblies in 21 States where it is holding power, said the party’s spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill here on Monday.

Talking to presspersons, Mr. Shergill said that the ‘one nation one election’ was a political lollipop by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah. The idea of simultaneous polls is against cooperative federalism and has been discarded by the Election Commission.

It also violates basic structure of the Constitution. “The Congress dares the BJP to dissolve all Assemblies in 21 States where they are ruling and get ready for polls. We are ready (in such a scenario),” he said.

The BJP, he said, floated the idea of simultaneous polls to divert people’s mind away from issues of Dalit atrocities and lynching. Mr. Shergill said the Congress will not be cowed down by attempts by the BJP to paint the party as anti-national and it will expose the latter’s corrupt practices.
