A decision on whether the eight-acre land at Bondel should be allotted to Dakshina Kannada Cricket Association (DKCA) or Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) will be taken in two weeks.
B. Ramanath Rai, minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada and Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology, told reporters after a meeting here on Saturday that the land could be developed into a ground as players didn’t have a good place to practice.
A DKCA representative told the meeting that it will not be possible to build a full-fledged stadium.
A KSCA representative, seeking allotment of the land to it, said DKCA was not an association but only one of the cricket clubs.
Staking its claim to the stadium, the DKCA representative said 42 clubs with 800 members were are attached to it, whereas KSCA in the district had only six clubs attached to it.
As there was no consensus, the minister ended the meeting stating that the government would take a decision.
He said the cost of development of the land would have to be borne by the association and the government would not grant any fund.
