Commotion in council

March 31, 2012 10:58 am | Updated 10:58 am IST - MANGALORE:

The budget meeting of the Mangalore City Corporation was marred by commotion on Friday as the councillors of the BJP, the Congress, and other parties had heated arguments over presenting the budget. It started after the former Mayor and BJP councillor M. Shankar Bhat objected to Mayor Gulzaar Banu presiding over it. He alleged that the Mayor did not have powers to conduct the budget meeting.

There was commotion for the first 20 minutes immediately after the meeting began. The Mayor adjourned the meeting for 10 minutes to restore the order.

During the discussion, Congress councillor Harinath said that the Mayor, belonging to the Congress, had presented the budget prepared by the BJP. Another independent councillor said it was akin to Mayor taking care of BJP's baby.
