The III Judicial Magistrate First Class Court on Thursday sentenced a 35-year-old first division assistant of a government pre-university college to one year of imprisonment after being found guilty of assaulting the headmistress of the college.

In the charge-sheet, the Barke police said Shivaprasad Dev had asked Annapurna Bachchan, headmistress of Bokkapatna Government Pu College, her service records. Ms. Bachchan told him to take copy of the documents. This enraged Dev and he slapped Ms. Bachchan on July 27, 2013. He abused her and attempted to pull her sari. Dev was convicted under Sections 354 (assaulting a woman with an intent to outrage her modesty), 504 (insult intended to provoke breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of Indian Penal Code. He also has to pay a fine of Rs. 9,500.
