The Mani Krishnaswamy Academy will, in association with the Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple, hold its annual Carnatic music workshop here from May 7 to 14.
A few classical concerts too will be organised to coincide with the workshop at Rajangana here.
Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, P. Nityananda Rao, Secretary of Mani Krishnaswamy Academy, said that the workshop is being organised in the memory of Chengalpattu Ranganathan.
Already 50 persons have registered for the workshop. Free lodging will be provided by the mutt for those coming from distant places.
Carnatic vocalist Prarthana Sai Narasimhan will teach krithis on Sri Krishna, and also other Devaranamas composed by various Vaggeyakaras.
The participants will render these songs during the valedictory function of the workshop.
Ms. Prarthana Sai Narasimhan will render Carnatic vocal at Rajangana at 10.30 a.m. on Sunday. She will be accompanied by K. Achyut Rao on the violin and C. Cheluvaraj on the mridangam.
Shreya Kolathaya will render Carnatic vocal on May 13. She will be accompanied by Vaibhav Ramani on the violin and Sunaad Krishna Ammai on the mridangam.
Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Pejawar Mutt will inaugurate the workshop at 9.30 a.m. at Rajangana on Sunday. Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swami, junior seer of Pejawar Mutt, and V. Arvind Hebbar, classical vocalist, will participate in the inaugural function.
The valedictory will be held at 9.30 a.m. at Rajangana on May 14. Ganesh Karnik, MLC and president of Mani Krishnaswamy Academy, will preside over the function. Ishwarayya A., art critic, will be the chief guest.
Prof. Hebbar, Murali Kadekar, Roopa Ballal, Vishwas Krishna and Mr. Rao himself will be the resource persons at the workshop. They will interact with the participants on different topics, he said.
