The Department of Pre-University Education has made all preparations for the II PU examination in Udupi district, which will be held from March 1 to 18.

Subrahmanya Joshi, Deputy Director of Pre-University Education, said here on Thursday that 15,410 candidates will be appearing for it in 27 centres across the district.

Question papers will be distributed by eight route teams and there will be a squad for these 27 centres. Flying squads too had been formed to pay surprise visits to these centres.

The papers will be distributed to the centres under tight security and eight vehicles will be used for it.

The rooms in the exam centres from where the question papers will be distributed and answer scripts will be collected had been equipped with CCTV cameras.

No one, except the chief examiners, would be allowed to take a cellphone to the centres. Strangers would not be allowed to enter and prohibitory orders will be in force in and around the exam centres.

Last year, Udupi had got 90.67% pass percentage in the examination and stood second in the State. It had lost the top spot to Dakshina Kannada by a whisker.

This year, the PU colleges had provided remedial teaching to students, who were lagging behind in some subjects in the district.

A minimum of three preparatory exams had been held by the colleges to prepare the students for the final exam, Mr. Joshi added.
