‘Akash Bhavan’ Sharan arrested

He had been on the run since January

The city police have arrested ‘Akash Bhavan’ Sharan, an alleged aide of underworld operative Vikki Shetty, who was absconding since January following the alleged sexual assault of a minor in Manipal.

Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil said following a tip-off, a team of Central Crime Branch sleuths went to Bengaluru and arrested Sharan. He is accused in more than 18 cases that includes murder and extortion.

He was among nine persons arrested in connection with murder of underworld operative Chota Shakeel’s aide Madur Isubbu in the Mangaluru District Prison on November 2, 2015. He was arrested in connection with murder of Ramakrishna, the administrator of KVG College, Sullia, in 2012.

The police said he was booked under the Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, Gamblers, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders and Slum-Grabbers (Goonda) Act recently and was lodged in the Central Prison in Ballari.

He was out after the detention period.

Mr. Patil said the city police are on the lookout for the alleged associates of Sharan.
