Mangalore University to host Open House

The programme scheduled on Mangalagangotri will showcasePG courses and laboratory facilities

Mangalore University will organise a two-day Open House on the university campus at Mangalagangotri from July 15 to showcase its post-graduation courses and facilities for students seeking admission for 2016-17.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, K. Byrappa, Vice-Chancellor, said that students could visit the 24 departments offering various courses and get details along with facilities available in the laboratories.

The departments concerned would provide useful information to students with brochures, applications, displays and presentations on academic programmes, research facility, adjunct faculty, international collaborations, projects, alumni, and employment opportunities. They could also interact with the faculty and research scholars.

The Vice-Chancellor said that the university has appointed 36 adjunct professors till date. They are scholars in different sectors.

The visiting students could also visit hostels, the university library, research laboratories, Yakshagana Kala Mandira and the like.

He said that two help desks — one at the entrance arch and the other near the bus stop (opposite the Mangala auditorium) — would be set up to assist students and parents visiting the campus.

Mr. Byrappa said that it would also conduct an Open House to throw light on post-graduate courses in its two constituent degree colleges.

University College, Hampankatta, in Mangaluru and Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College, Madikeri, would showcase the courses on July 18.

The college at Hampankatta offers four post-graduation courses. It would offer a post-graduation course in economics from the academic year 2016-17 as the fifth course. It was already offering post-graduation courses in commerce, chemistry, hindi and sanskrit.

The Madikeri college offers three post-graduation courses. It would offer a course in commerce as the fourth one from the current academic year.

The post-graduate centre of the university at Chikka Valuvara near Kushalnagar in Kodagu district would conduct an Open House on July 19. The centre offers six courses.

K.M. Lokesh, Registrar (Administration), Uday Kumar Irvathur, Principal, University College, Mangaluru, and T.N. Sreedhara, coordinator, Open House programme, were present.
