Corporation Bank has to find “smarter, better, more attractive channels” to attract younger customers to the bank, said Ajai Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director, Corporation Bank.

He was speaking at an event organised by the Corporation Bank Officers’ Organisation, affiliated to All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC), in the city on Monday, to celebrate 30 years of Officers' Voice , the magazine of the officers of the bank.

People below the age of 35 did not have accounts with Corporation Bank. “Facebook, Twitter need to be accessed...marketing can be done through these sites, these channels are highly important,” he said. A clip of the bank’s AGM on You Tube had got 15 to 20 responses instantly. “How fast you can be heard is very important. Though we are doing well, we are not into the market; others are faster in getting younger people. We are not in the race,,” he said.

Mr. Ajai Kumar said that he hoped the bank would reach the business target of Rs. 3 lakh crore by March 2013. He said the increase in retail deposits in this quarter was good as also the increase in priority sector lending and savings bank deposits.

M.P. Veerendra Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of Mathrubhoomi , Kozhikode, who was the chief guest, said it was difficult to keep a magazine running for a long time while being in time and dear to the readers. He said that it was very important to communicate and share information .

He said that it was important to take cognisance of what was happening around us “because we have to think of coming generations. I come from Kerala, where there are 44 rivers and we don't have water to drink because we have polluted all the rivers,” he said. While children of coming generations might have the benefits of science and technology, they would have no water to drink. “This is the stark reality that is facing us today,” he said.

T.R. Bhat, founder-editor of Officers’ Voice , said that the magazine had seen many challenges, especially when it was about differences between the management and the union and when its editorials were critical of the management’s HR policies. They had to edit to make it palatable to the management and once, one chairman said that he wanted to be deleted from the mailing list of the magazine.

Amar Lal Daultani, Executive Director, Corporation Bank, and Ashwani Kumar, Executive Director, Corporation Bank were present.
