CPI(M) not to resile from its stand on souharda rally

The CPI (M) will go ahead with the Karavali Souharda Rally here on Saturday in which Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will participate, regardless of the hartal called by Sangh Parivar, CPI (M) State Secretary and Central politburo Member G.V. Srirama Reddy said here on Friday.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Reddy said everybody has the right to speak on communal harmony. There was no question on being perturbed by the hartal call. The rally has been organised to restore communal harmony in the coastal region.

“This region is known for communal harmony. Sangh Parivar members have spoilt the atmosphere here. We are committed to restoring the glory of the region,” he said.

Mr. Reddy said Mr. Vijayan will speak for 30 minutes at the rally. People from different parts of the State will participate.

“We have not called our activists from Kerala. But we cannot prevent anybody coming voluntarily for the function,” he said.

Mr. Reddy accused the Sangh Parivar members of inconveniencing people by calling for the hartal on Saturday.

CPI (M) State Council Member V.J.K. Nair said Mr. Vijayan has been fighting for long against the political killings in Kerala. He said the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh activists started it in 1973 in Talasherry and have continued to attack CPI (M) activists, who are resisting such attacks.
