A 56-year-old woman died after she fell off from a scooter and came under the wheels of a city bus near the busy Clock Tower Junction here on Saturday.
The Mangaluru East Traffic police said Prema, a resident of Moodshedde, was riding pillion while her husband Krishna Gatta, a retired government employee, was riding the scooter.
The two were on the way to the Central Market. As they were nearing the junction, a city bushit the scooter. Prema fell off the vehicle and came under the wheels of the bus. She died on the spot.
The Mangaluru Traffic police have arrested Jagannath Naik, the driver of the bus.
Chain snatched
Two motorcycle-borne men robbed a woman of her gold chain near Kadri in Shivbagh junction on Saturday. The Mangaluru East police said Uma Ghorpade, 40, was walking home when the two persons came across her. They pushed her down and made away with her 40 g gold chain. The incident occurred around 7 a.m., the police said.
Gold stolen
Eighty grams of gold jewellery and Rs. 40,000 cash was stolen from the house of Mumtaz in Katipalla 8th block in Surathkal police station limits on Saturday.
The police said the persons entered the house by breaking open the bathroom windows and made away with the jewellery and cash kept in a cupboard in the bedroom.
The residents noticed that the jewellery and cash were missing when they woke up in the morning around 7 a.m.
One killed in collision
One person was killed and another injured in a collision between a tanker and a motorcycle near Herikudru bridge on National Highway 66 at Anagalli village coming under Kundapur police station limits on Saturday.
The Kundapur traffic police said Kariyappa (44), was riding a motorcycle from Kundapur to Hemmady village with Abhishek as pillion, when a tanker coming from the opposition direction collided with it at Anagali.
The impact of the collision was such that Kariyappa suffered severe injuries and died on the spot. Abhishek, who was injured in the accident, was shifted to Kasturba Hospital in Manipal for treatment. Rash and negligent driving by the tanker driver is said to be the cause of the accident.
A case had been registered and investigations were on, the police said.
Two die in accident
Two persons were killed when a truck hit a scooter from behind at Beedinagudde here on Saturday. The police said Ramdas Bhat was driving his scooter with Lakshminarayana as pillion from Budnar to Udyavara.
When the scooter reached the Bayalu Ranga Mantapa, a tipper lorry came and hit the scooter from behind.
As a result, both Ramdas and Lakshminarayana were thrown off the scooter, suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot. A case had been registered at the Udupi Town Police Station and investigations were on, the police said.
