A 26-year-old youth was found dead with multiple injuries all over the body along the railway track near Madurai East railway station in Mela Anuppanadi here on Sunday.

Police identified the deceased as history-sheeter Sathya of Pagalavan Nagar at Anuppanadi. There were murder and robbery charges against him in many police stations. It is said that Chellapandi, a friend of Sathya, was found dead in a similar fashion — along the railway track — a year ago. Though it was claimed that he had jumped in front of a train and killed himself, Chellapandi’s brother Muthukumar suspected Sathya’s hand in it.

Apprehending trouble, Sathya shifted base to Melur to steer clear of Muthukumar.

On Saturday, he had come to his sister’s house in Kamarajapuram. On learning about his arrival, Muthukumar is suspected to have invited Sathya for a movie. As Sathya never returned home, his relatives sensed trouble. Their fears came true when the news of his death broke out in the early morning of Sunday.

Passersby found the body by 4 a.m. and had alerted the police control room.

The police sent the body to Government Rajaji Hospital for post-mortem. A doctor said that the body bore multiple injuries inflicted by a sharp-edged weapon.

Teppakulam police have registered a case.

A few suspects were being examined, a police officer said.
