Work on chemical coating on Tiruvalluvar statue to be over in six months

The chemical coating work on the Tiruvalluvar statue would be over within the stipulated period of six months, said Minister for Tourism Vellamandi N. Natarajan here on Saturday.

Addressing after inaugurating the five-day ``Kumari Fest – 2017’’ at St. Antony Higher Secondary School ground here, the Minister said that the work began in April was being monitored by officials at regular intervals. Chemical coating was done on once in four years to protect the statue from salty wind, he said.

He also said that preparation of estimate for the proposed bridge between the Vivekanandar Rock Memorial and Tiruvalluvar statue was in the final stage. Once, the estimate was approved by the government, the work would start soon, he added.

A new conference hall to accommodate 1000 persons would be built within the TTDC complex in Kanniyakumari, the Minister said.

The ``Kumari Fest – 2017’’ was organised by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation and the district administration.

Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan presided over the programme. Rajya Sabha MP A. Vijayakumar, Justin Selvaraj, Member, Tamil Nadu Minorities Commission, participated.

District Tourism Officer K. Nelson welcomed the gathering and A. Sugumaran, Zonal Manager, TTDC, Madurai, proposed a vote of thanks.
