High on hope: Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam addressing party workers in Dindigul on Wednesday.

Former Chief Minister and AIADMK (Puratchi Thalaivi Amma) faction leader O. Paneerselvam on Wednesday said that they alone could bring back the Jayalalithaa government in Tamil Nadu and it would happen soon with people’s support.

Speaking at a public meeting here organised to mark the centenary celebrations of late M.G. Ramachandran, he said that in Tamil Nadu’s political history only the AIADMK had been given the chance to rule for 27 years.

In an apparent reference to jailed personalities, including V.K. Sasikala and T.T.V. Dhinakaran, he said that the AIADMK, a party, founded by MGR and led by Jayalalithaa, could not be captured by a family.

Without mentioning Edappadi Palaniswami’s name, he said that though the present government claimed to be functioning to fulfil Amma’s wishes, it was not so. “Only we can fulfil her wishes,” he noted.

Claim

The former Chief Minister said that the rulers had just 2,417 functionaries on their board and claimed that they were the AIADMK.

“How is this acceptable when 1.50 crore cadre of the party wholeheartedly supported us,” he asked.

Reminding that in 1972 the DMK had 182 MLAs and MGR, who had just floated the party, had 11 MLAs on his side, Mr. Paneerselvam said that the rest was history, and the people had supported only the AIADMK and voted for two-leaves symbol.

The true colours of the present rulers would be known soon, he said.

The rebel AIADMK leader also took a dig at DMK leader M.K. Stalin, who, he said, was day dreaming to come to power by utilising the division in the AIADMK.
