Wait until the date for the elections is announced by the Election Commission of India, according to former Union Minister M.K. Alagiri.

Speaking at a function organised here on Saturday by the members of M.K. Alagiri Peravai to pay tributes to late DMK president M. Karunanidhi, he said that many functionaries in the DMK were not keen on seeing the growth of the party, but were only interested in enhancing their personal agenda.

The DMK, he said, had been “offering positions to functionaries who raised their voice in my favour...that I should be admitted back into the party,” he claimed.

He maintained that for no fault he had been removed by the so called “high command” in the DMK. “All that I did was to talk in favour of the loyal workers, who were suspended by the party then. I will not be cowed down by remarks made by some individuals,” he said and took a pledge that he would show his might in the elections be it for the Tirupparankundram or the Lok Sabha polls. Until then wait, he told the gathering.

He said he had learnt a lot from his father on self-respect and the fruits of hard work. He said that he would always remain a loyal worker for the DMK men. People in the party may talk ill of me today that I lowered the image of the party after the Tirumangalam by-poll. The hard work of every worker brought in victory and it was incorrect to say that money was distributed in the election held then.

A large number of DMK cadre participated in the meeting, which included former MLA Manimaran and many councillors.
