Lilting veena music filled the air at Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple as 108 veena players performed in unison on the 10th day of Navaratri festival here on Friday.
Young and old women and men performed the veena concert for an hour to the accompaniment of mridangam and tabla.
K. Bharathipriyan, secretary of Madurai Veenai Velipadu Mandram, said that the organisation was hosting the concert for the 19th year this year.
“Support to our concert is growing every year. The veena concert on Vijayadasami has become a part of Madurai’s cultural events calendar,” he said.
Tourists from across the country and various countries joined Madurai people to watch the veena concert.
S. Mallika, Principal and Coordinator of Tamil Isai Sangam, said acclaimed veena teachers usually gather in January every year to draw up a list of songs to perform at the concert.
