Two women drown in quarry pit

A 60-year-old woman, M. Pappammal, and her granddaughter M. Sudha (18) drowned in a quarry pit near Chekkanoorani on Friday. Police said that Pappammal’s son Manickam had performed house-warming ceremony for his house at Oothupatti.

After the function, Pappammal and his daughter had gone to a nearby quarry pit to wash clothes, and drowned in the water.

Some people rescued and rushed them to Government Rajaji Hospital. Police said that the doctors declared them brought dead. Chekkanoorani police are investigating.

Man killed

A 39-year-old man, E. Nallamayan, of Chinnakuravakudi, was killed when a mud wall collapsed in the forenoon of Friday. Police said that the widower, who was living with his two children, died on the spot when the mud wall, that was weakened during the recent rain, fell on him. Valandur police are investigating.
