A special team of police formed by Dindigul Superintendent of Police R. Sakthivel arrested two youth on Saturday in connection with the recent chain snatching incidents reported across the district.

The police seized gold jewellery weighing 25 sovereigns from the duo - a 17-year-old youth from Sempatti and S. Ali Akbar, 21, from Old Batlagundu.

Following a spate of chain snatching incidents in Dindigul district, the SP had formed the special team headed by Manimaran, DSP of Dindigul Town sub-division, to nab the culprits.

The team members were engaged in vehicle check near Batlagundu Bypass on Saturday. The police team, on suspicion, intercepted the two youth who came on a two-wheeler.

Investigation revealed that the two were involved in many chain snatching incidents. They had snatched a 2.5-sovereign chain from Dharani of R.M. Colony in Dindigul on July 3, a five- sovereign chain from Emalda, 75, and a four sovereign chain from Thavamani, 68, both on Arockiyamatha Street under Dindigul Town North police station on July 19. The the same day, they had snatched a nine-sovereign chain from Sharmila, 33, in Batlagundu V.O.C Nagar.
