Two siblings, who were among the accused in a double murder case near Murappanadu, surrendered before the Alangulam court on Friday.

S. Marimuthu, 23, and S. Chinnathambi, 22, who hail from Pakkapatti, surrendered themselves before the Judicial Magistrate.

Muthusamy (63), and his grandson Sudalaimani (18), both residents of Pakkapatti in Thoothukudi district, were hacked to death on Wednesday night.

The police said that their rivalry began while Sudalaimani and one of his friends, Vadivel Murugan, were taking a bath in the river in May. It is alleged that Vadivel Murugan passed casteist comments against Chinnathambi, a member of the SC community, and objected to his taking a bath in the same area, and later hacked him.

Based on a complaint by Chinnathambi, a case was registered against Vadivel Murugan under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Following the incident, a rivalry existed between Sudalaimani and Chinnathambi, which is cited as the motive for the crime.
