Students of Lady Doak College presented their adaptation of the Broadway musical ‘The Sound of Music’ and enthralled the audience, here on Thursday.

The play based on Maria Von Trapp’s memoir ‘The Story of the Trapp Family Singers’ was effortlessly performed by students. With an all-pervading music and fluid dance movements, the students captured the interest of the audience.

Beatrice Anne D’Couto, the director of the play, said that students had only one month to practise before putting up the show. The play involved contribution from actors, off stage singers and the production team in equal parts.

The director said, “this is the first time the college has used Light Emitting Diode (LED) display screens to change the backdrop of the play. Each scene change showcased the scenic wonders of Austria and palatial houses in Salzburg.” The backgrounds often took inspiration from the 1965 movie adaptation of the Broadway play.

Ancy Christina, pursuing her post-graduate degree in English, essayed the role of Maria and Angel Ratchanya, pursuing her graduation in Psychology and Sociology, played the role of Captain Von Trapp. Around 50 students from across courses participated in the musical.

The music was conducted the Centre for Music of Lady Doak College.
