Taxi drivers from Kumili protested for the second day on Friday as Kerala Forest Department refused permission for parking vehicles at Anavachal car parking lot in Thekkady.

Following a 2017 Supreme Court judgement, the parking lot that was functioning near the Thekkady boat jetty was cleared.

Since then taxis and jeeps were being parked at Anavachal.

However, the Kerala Forest Department suddenly made the area out of bounds for taxis preventing them from entering the area.

On Thursday, the taxi drivers protested against the department raising slogans and blocking the road.

As no solution was found, the protest continued for the second day on Friday when over 100 members of All Parties Taxi Drivers Union took out a rally from the Kumili bus stand to the forest check post at the entrance of Thekkady. The Kerala police stopped them from entering Thekkady and the protesters stayed at the entrance leading to a tense situation and causing inconvenience to tourists. To avoid further escalation of tension, police force has been deployed in Thekkady.
