A city resident got back the money he paid as a bribe to a Tangedco employee. The employee had figured in complaints received on the Collector’s Facebook page for demanding money to set up three-phase power connections.
After the commercial inspector-rank Tangedco employee demanded “hefty” bribes for “doing things” for them, a few annoyed applicants narrated their woes on the Collector’s Facebook page a week back.
Taking note of the message, Collector Anshul Mishra, it is understood, had ordered a discreet probe by a team of officials.
Apprehending trouble, the Tangedco employee not only returned the money to those who had lodged complaints in the Collector’s Facebook page, but also got them the power connections as per the law.
Thanking the Collector on the Facebook page, an applicant said he had got back the money he gave the employee as a bribe. Another applicant thanked the Collector for his timely intervention.
When The Hindu spoke to a few applicants who had posted the information on the Facebook on Monday, they claimed that for a new single-phase connection, the Tangedco employee demanded Rs.7000.
Another applicant was asked to pay Rs.20,000 for a three-phase connection.
“We got back our money from the employee,” they confirmed over telephone.
