Taking cognisance of the fact that a number of petitions were being filed seeking closure of TASMAC shops and regulation of recreational clubs, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday directed the State to inspect such clubs to ascertain if they were functioning as per rules.

A Division Bench of Justices T. S. Sivagnanam and R. Tharani directed the Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise to inspect the clubs that opened in the last one and half years to see if the clubs were functioning as per rules.

If the clubs were found to be functioning in violation of rules, the court directed the authorities concerned to lock and seal the clubs. The court directed a copy of the order be marked to the Principal Secretary to Home Department.
