The CCB police have registered a case of forgery against a suspended Deputy Tahsildar from Theni district here on Friday.

Following a complaint from West Tahsildar S. Selvaraj, Commissioner Shailesh Kumar Yadav had directed the CCB police to register a case. It is said that Balamurugan, the suspended official, had issued a fake patta to Senthil Kumar of Nagamalai Pudukottai. When Senthil Kumar approached a bank seeking a loan, his application was turned down after it was found that the patta was not genuine. When a shocked Senthil Kumar came to the West Tahsildar office at the Collectorate, the staff denied that they had issued the patta.

After he narrated the tale to higher officials, Balamurugan was brought to the office of the Tahsildar and later handed over to the police. A case of forgery was registered and further inquiry was on, police officers added.

The Collector L. Subramanian has ordered an enquiry.
