Suggestion to close HC Bench oppossed

October 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - MADURAI:

The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has expressed shock over the observation of the Madras High Court about suggestions received from some quarters for closure for some time of the Madurai Bench or providing concurrent jurisdiction to the Principal Seat to hear cases filed from the southern districts.

In a statement, N. Jegatheesan, president, and S. Rethinavelu, senior president, felt that any move to close down the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court even for a brief period would provoke serious repercussions and cause irremediable misery to litigants, especially the trade and industry. While saying that innocent litigants should not be punished for no fault of theirs, the chamber hoped that the Madras High Court would brush aside such “inappropriate suggestions meant to make such critical infrastructure set up for the benefit of all sections of people in south Tamil Nadu defunct.”
